Having signed a memorandum with the Ministry of Education, CERMI is organizing a train-the-trainer program for its technicians and for teachers from technical schools across the country. With a total of 15 participants, the training will last for one week. Under the banner “Sustainable Schools”, the program aims to promote Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in schools.
“The first step is to prepare the teachers so that they are in the position to take full advantage of the situation when we are technologically more advanced in this area. We will also take the opportunity to train some of our own technicians from the Center”, explained CERMI's Chairman of the Board, Luís Teixeira during the opening ceremony.
The training is designed to make participants aware of the basic concepts concerning photovoltaic systems, such as their conception, planning, installation and maintenance.
The Chairman of the Board also underlined the fact that Cabo Verde is going through a period of energy transition, requiring everyone to be prepared for such changes.
"Schools will have to follow this process and for that they need to build up knowledge in these areas. We are doing our role, which is to build capacity through training, which is why this program is part of a larger project to strengthen CERMI's positioning in the ECOWAS region."
The training will be delivered by Technicians Nilton Lopes and Kénio de Brito who previously participated in the Photovoltaic Systems training for ECOWAS trainers held at the Center, within the framework of project CVE/881 “CERMI Regional Anchor Strengthening in ECOWAS”, financed by the European Union and implemented by the Luxembourg Cooperation Agency (LuxDev).
After the opening ceremony, the trainees visited the Center’s workshops to familiarize themselves with building and see first-hand where they will attend practical classes.
