As part of CERMI's mission to the ECOWAS region, a delegation met with various entities related to the energy sector to seek new partnerships in Ghana and Nigeria.

The delegation was composed of Chairman of the Board of Directors of CERMI, Luís Teixeira and Project Coordinator for the CERMI Regional Anchor Strengthening Project in ECOWAS, Jansénio Delgado. The two held meetings with the Nigeria Energy Commission, as well as the Energy Commission in Ghana.

During the meetings, Luís Teixeira “presented CERMI (synergies, partnerships and network), the CERMI Regional Anchor Project, as well as training programs for ECOWAS technicians, discussing the harmonization of training certification within the ECOWAS region and certifying electricians, given that Ghana has a good functioning training system and certification exam”.

The Ghanaian Energy Commission is in charge of regulating and managing the development and use of energy resources in Ghana, specifically in licensing electricity, renewable energy, natural gas and energy efficiency.

The Nigeria Energy Commission (ECN) has, on the other hand, the mission to carry out strategic planning and the coordination of national energy policies across all its branches. It is a leading government agency with the power to carry out general energy sector planning and policy implementation, as well as to promote the diversification of energy resources.

The CERMI Regional Anchor Strengthening Project in ECOWAS receives technical assistance from LuxDev and is funded by the European Union.
