The Center for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) started another regional training in Energy Efficiency for Trainers, at its facilities, in the city of Praia, today, involving the English-speaking ECOWAS countries, with two representatives of Cabo Verde in attendance.
Nigeria, with four trainees, Ghana, Gambia, Liberia and Cabo Verde, all with two, and Sierra Leone, with one representative, are the beneficiaries of the training, which will last for 15 days.
This training features a representative from Burkina Faso, who’s participating as an observer as part of his preparation to provide similar training for French-speaking ECOWAS countries, in September.
The 14 trainees were selected from a pool of 144 applications submitted from all the countries in question.
The goal is to provide the participants with tools that will enable them to train future professionals in the field in their respective countries, replicating the knowledge they acquired, with a view to helping those countries implement their policies and actions in the area of energy transition, which is currently a major focus in the entire sub-region.
The training was opened by the Chairman of CERMI’s Board of Directors, who welcomed the participants and trainers and reminded them of the importance of energy efficiency for the subregion’s development.
Luís Teixeira said that the initiative also aims to project CERMI as a Regional Center, which will require “partnerships, supports and synergies” which the current trainees and future trainers should and could play a major role in.
After the opening, the participants were offered a guided tour of CERMI’s facilities, during which they were able to see the workshops and laboratories and the Solar Park, as well as the center’s functional structure that will welcome them in the next two weeks.
The ceremony that started the training was attended by CERMI’s Board Chairman, Luís Teixeira, François Bary, representative of LuxDev (Luxembourg Cooperation), the Government of Cabo Verde’s main partner for CERMI, the institution’s executive and non-executive directors, Luís de Pina and Gilson Correia, respectively, the coordinator of the Regional Anchoring Project, Jansénio Delgado, and the Training Director of the Cabo Verde Competence Center (CDC 3C), Edson Mendes.
This is the second training of its kind, this time aimed at the Anglophone ECOWAS countries and it fits in with CERMI’s regional anchoring strategy. The first, on Photovoltaic Solar Energy, took place in March this year and benefited 16 participants from the region’s English-speaking countries, as well as Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau.
