The second regional Train-the-trainer program hosted at the Center for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), in Praia, ended today. The focus of this training was on Energy Efficiency for English-speaking countries of the ECOWAS region, and was also attended by two representatives from Cabo Verde.

Four trainees from Nigeria, two each from Ghana, Gambia, Liberia and Cabo Verde, and one representative from Sierra Leone, benefitted from the training, which lasted for 15 days.

During the program, the trainees were not only given theoretical classes, but were also given the opportunity to experience practical work at CERMI's Solar Photovoltaic Park, as well as carrying out study visits to various companies and institutions, namely Cabeólica, a wind energy company, and Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde, in whose modern and functional building, they were able to see and analyse the solutions adopted for energy efficiency.

The training equipped participants with the tools necessary for them to put into practice everything they have learned, once they head back to their respective countries, and to pass on this knowledge to young people in the institutions where they will recreate such training.

At the end of the course, the participants were clearly satisfied, having acquired a new vision and new instruments to work towards energy efficiency, one of the key priorities in the ECOWAS region, and for the “excellent training” provided by CERMI.

At the closing ceremony, CERMI Chairman, Luís Teixeira, thanked all the participants, and called on each one to become an ambassador for the Center in their home country, contributing in the effort to create synergies to transform CERMI into a Regional Center of Reference for renewable energy and industrial maintenance.

The ceremony was attended by Ulrich Weins, Representative of the European Union and Virginia Mulas, Representative of LuxDev. The training program was carried out within the framework of the CERMI Regional Anchor Strengthening Project which is financed by the EU and implemented by LuxDev.
