The Center for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) welcomed a visit, yesterday, from LuxDev’s West Africa Program Advisor. LuxDev is the agency in charge of implementing the Luxembourg Government's projects for the region, including for Cabo Verde.
Program Advisor Max Glesener was welcomed by CERMI's Board of Directors, with whom he had a meeting before visiting the Center’s facilities and main building. He acknowledged the work that the Center is carrying out in the field of Energy Transition and Efficiency and in training technicians and young professionals from Cabo Verde and the ECOWAS region.
At the end of his visit, he was very pleased with what he saw: "I leave this Center with a very good impression. Although I already visited Cabo Verde three years ago, I did not have the chance to visit CERMI at that time, yet I have always heard excellent references of this project. I am glad to have visited it now, and am very impressed with what is being done”.
The LuxDev Program Advisor acknowledged that Luxembourg has a number of important cooperation projects in Cabo Verde, but “considering CERMI’s impact on the country's future and its Energy Transition and Sustainable Development goals, CERMI is certainly very important”.
Looking to the future, Max Glesener hopes that support and funding from the Luxembourg Cooperation continues. "At this stage, we are defining, along with our Embassy, a new cooperation strategy for Cabo Verde. I cannot share any details at present, but with regard to CERMI, we are facing a sector with future", stated the official.
CERMI was built and inaugurated in 2015 with funding from the Luxembourg Cooperation, which also provides financing and technical assistance for several of the Center’s current activities channeled through LuxDev. With funds from the European Union, LuxDev currently implements and coordinates the CERMI's Regional Anchor Strengthening Project in ECOWAS.
