The Burgomaster (Mayor) of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, said today that he will work to help create a framework for cooperation and collaboration between his country’s institutions and companies and the Center for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI) in the fields of activity referred to.
On a visit to CERMI yesterday, Ahmed Aboutaleb visited the facilities, laboratories, workshops and classrooms and liked what he saw. He interacted with the young students, asked questions and even handled an industrial machine, showing that he knows what he is doing and what he is talking about.
That is why he made a very positive assessment of what he saw and heard at the center, highlighting its importance for Cabo Verde and any country, considering that the new technologies aimed at energy production are the future of the world.
“This is an essential institution for a developing country. It is a modern center, of which Cabo Verdeans should be proud. I saw many boys and girls in vocational training, using their intelligence and their hands to become technically and technologically qualified. This is what the market needs today: working people. This is essential for enhancing the production chain of essential goods such as energy, water and, ultimately, food production. This vision and these achievements represent a great gain for the Government and society, not only in Cabo Verde, but also worldwide. It is a way of leading your youth and pointing them in the right direction,” said the mayor of Rotterdam.
Ahmed Aboutaleb assured that there are real possibilities for cooperation between CERMI and Dutch counterparts, whether public or private institutions or companies.
“We’re going to work on it. That is why I invited CERMI’s Board Chairman to visit Rotterdam soon and establish contacts with our institutions and companies. Our institutions, even if they receive government funding, are independent and make their own decisions. But I am sure they are open to talking and establishing relationships with CERMI, and I will provide the necessary connections myself,” said the Burgomaster of Rotterdam, which is home to the largest Cabo Verdean community in the Netherlands.
The Chairman of CERMI’s Board of Directors welcomed both the Burgomaster’s visit and his invitation to visit that city and his willingness to contact possible partners, while stressing that Rotterdam is a very technologically advanced city, particularly in the area of renewable energy, and that Cabo Verde could learn a lot from it.
The Burgomaster of Rotterdam went to CERMI with the Mayor of Praia, who invited him to Cabo Verde for an official visit.
